From informing staff and members of the public about good news or a crisis, to helping staff members plan a special event, the Communications Department is focused on sharing information. This department is the primary liaison with media. Staff members who wish to access the media, or have been contacted by a media representative; make their first call to Communications.

The Communications Department assists staff member in the planning and coordination of special events, such as grand openings or achievement celebrations. Services provided by the Communications Department include development of guest lists, invitations, and programs, and the coordination of the numerous other details that are designed to ensure success.

The Communications Department produces Staff Connections, which is a staff newsletter produced every three weeks for a total of 16 issues per year. The newsletter is designed to highlight activities and individuals of our Regional Health Authority. Staff members are encouraged to contact the Communications Department so that items of interest in your area may be shared with a wider audience. In addition, this Department produces a monthly Community Newsletter which is distributed to four communities in our Region: Eastern Charlotte and the Fundy Isles, Greater Saint John, St. Stephen, and Sussex. These documents are designed to ensure that our community partners are aware of news and activities related to their health authority.

The Staff and Public Information and Feedback Line (1-800-939-9090 – toll free anywhere in New Brunswick) is updated weekly by the Communications Department to include current events and job postings. Callers may register concerns, ask questions, or leave comments on the feedback portion (line 1). Upcoming events and job postings are available on line 2, and line 3 is available to provide updates, as needed, on health care delivery in southwestern New Brunswick.

The Communications Department provides editorial assistance in the development and translation of AHSC’s patient education information. Staff may forward such requests to the translation process available on the staff Intranet – LINKS.

The Communications Department facilitates the advertisement of messages to employees and the general public by distributing news to media or by posting notices on regular and electronic bulletin boards.

The Communications Department has developed graphic guidelines for AHSC’s communication tools in order to provide standardization of written materials.

Members of the Communications Department are available, when asked, to craft speeches, develop presentations, and coordinate press kits and, as such, act as a resource to other departments and services

In summary, the Communications Department is a one-stop shopping centre for communications, media relations, special events, editorial and/or translation services.
