SERVICES

The Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation  (AHSC) employs occupational therapists in 6 facilities throughout southwestern New Brunswick, and in the community under the extra mural program (EMP).  This area is referred to as Region 2 and extends from Sussex to St. Stephen, including Fundy isles of Grand Manan, Campobello, and Deer Island.

The AHSC values a client focused, interdisciplinary approach to care. Occupational Therapy is a part of the rehabilitation services program. This program includes occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech language pathology, and audiology. A formal structure is in place to maintain communication, support, and networking between all occupational therapy staff in the region. Program development is coordinated through the following service areas; Musculoskeletal, neuroscience, pediatrics, mental health and community. There are many opportunities for continuing education and inservices for staff. The development of evidence based practice and research activities are encouraged.

Community Based services:

  1. Community Based service is provided throughout the region by the Extra Mural Program to clients of all ages in homes, schools, nursing homes, ect. Services are coordinated out of the following units.
  • Eastern Charlotte Unit, St. George  N.B.
  • Kennebecasis Unit, Kennebecasis Valley N.B.
  • Saint John Unit, Saint John  N.B.
  • St. Stephen Unit, St.Stephen  N.B.
  • Sussex Unit, Sussex  N.B.

Note:

Surrounding rural communities also receive community based occupational therapy services from the appropriate EMP Unit.

The Occupational Therapy Department of AHSC is staffed by a dynamic group of professionals who provide a broad range of services to clients of all ages.

To be an Occupational therapist with the AHSC Region 2, you must have a certificate of Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy University Program and be eligible for registration with the New Brunswick Association of Occupational Therapists (NBAOT) and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).
