It's all about the “BEND”. The goal at discharge from the hospital is a 90 degree bend. However, you may be discharged if you are progressing nicely towards this goal. It is imperative, that you continue on with your exercises to improve the knee after surgery. “DON’T TAKE THE CHAIR ALL DAY!” Remember, exercise prevents complications such as clots. You are going to feel great in the long run, but it takes time and work on your part. Many patients report golfing, traveling, walking, bicycling, gardening and a general great feeling after a new knee! This is a suggested walking exercise program to be used after knee surgery.
Tip: If you have someone to help you get there, the mall provides a good flat surface for walking in the winter time. Plus there’s good food, hot coffee, sights to see and above all, socialization with other knee or hip patients! |
