Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
All services related to children and adolescents are under the Women's and Children's Health
Program. This allows for a holistic approach to children’s health care. For mental health
services, the Program is linked to Acute Mental Health Services. Inpatient care, if necessary,
is primarily provided by the Child and Adolescent Psycho social Program with the exception
of some older adolescents with mental illness who may be treated as an inpatients on either
of the Acute Inpatient or Short Stay Units. The Mental Health Program also links closely with
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services at the Community Mental Health Centres where
services can be accessed as well.
Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Consultation Service to Schools in District 8 Teachers in District 8 have the opportunity to learn about different psychiatric conditions seen in the child and adolescent population. Using an example of an anonymous case, the child and adolescent psychiatrist, school child psychologist and teachers discuss how to approach developing classroom strategies to help the child and others with similar challenges.
