Palliative care is for individuals and their families who have been diagnosed with terminal illnesses and are no longer receiving active treatment for the purpose of arresting the disease.

The Extra-Mural Program palliative service performs an integral role in the delivery of palliative care in the greater community. Our program follows the norms and guideline as defined by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association.

The partnerships required to provide coordinated, comprehensive palliative service include physicians, Hospice, Palliative Care Unit, volunteers, clergy, pharmacies, funeral homes, home care agencies, etc.

The Extra-Mural Program team works together with these partners, and in concert with the client and family to ensure quality end of life care.

Homemaker service, nutritional supplements, medication and palliative oxygen may be offered where need is determined.
