NURSES provide those services that require specialized nursing skills or procedures. Nurses also provide care and support to those who are dying or who wish to die at home.

LIAISON NURSES ensure the effective transfer of patients, on a local and provincial basis, from the acute care hospital to the Extra-Mural Program.

Nursing Roles and Responsibilities

• To be competent in the use of specialized equipment for treatment purposes
• Coordinate care in all palliative cases
• To be educated in the latest treatments in wound care, pain management, symptom management, and medication management
• Competency in advanced nursing procedures: Irrigate T-tubes, Veni puncture, Initiation and maintenance of IV lines, Port-a-caths®, picc lines, central venous lines, ventilated patients, foot care, CADD, IV infusion pumps, Feeding pumps, Accucheks
