Job Satisfaction Testimonial

What would be one of the more challenging aspects of the EMP manager’s job?

One of the more challenging aspects of the EMP manager’s job is coordinating and being accountable for the activities of a multidisciplinary team. The scopes of practice, workloads, issues and demands among different professional groups cause many challenges. The multidisciplinary team dynamics adds a complexity above and beyond the daily challenge of providing quality service to large number of clients.

The upside of this is the satisfaction of having your team working together in a complex case to bring a high caliber of care to the patient.

What is the challenge of being accountable to both the Regional and Provincial direction?

The challenge of accountability to both regional and provincial direction is finding a balance between these two organizations. The growth and demand on a regional basis has made the challenge of coordinating regional programs an exciting, dynamic activity. The coordinating challenge involves networking internally and externally on a daily basis to keep abreast of current issues from both the regional and provincial sections.

What professional discipline do you supervise at the Extra-Mural Program?

We are fortunate to have the following disciplines working as an interdisciplinary team:

  • Social Work
  • Dietary
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech-Language Pathology
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Clerical/Secretarial
  • Nursing

With such a diverse range of skills and abilities it is an ongoing challenge as a manager to develop, monitor and coordinate the effort of these individuals who provide services to schools, nursing homes and clients within their own home.
