All residents of New Brunswick are eligible for Extra-Mural Program services when they meet the following criteria:

  1. The individual is a resident of New Brunswick with a valid NB Medicare Card, or is in the process of receiving a Card.
  2. The individual must present with an identifiable healthcare / functional need that can be addressed through the professional services provided by the Extra-Mural Program.
  3. The individual must present with a need that requires the provision of healthcare service in the individual’s natural environment.
  4. The individual’s natural environment is suitable for the care / service to be provided, both for the individual and the service provider.
  5. The individual resides within the geographic area serviced by the Extra-Mural Program.
  6. The individual is referred by an attending physician or designate who has admitting privileges in the Region Hospital Corporation (exception – rehabilitation referrals).
  7. The individual desires/accepts Extra-Mural Program services.
  8. Non residents or residents without a NB Medicare Card agrees to assume responsibility for the full cost of the services provided. Exceptions can be made on a case by case basis with regional approval.
