St. Joseph's Hospital
In 1914, the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception responded to the need for
a local hospital by opening the Saint John Infirmary, a 78-bed facility. From that
beginning, St. Joseph's Hospital developed and adapted throughout the years to meet
changing health care requirements. In 1994, with the realignment of health care services
in Saint John, the role of St. Joseph's Hospital changed again.
It now offers services through defined programs: Health & Aging; Day Surgery; Provincial
Eye Bank; Women’s Health Program;; Ambulatory Services including an Ophthalmology Clinic,
Breast Health Clinic, and a variety of Surgical Clinics; and the Community Health Centre;
and Urgent Care Centre from 9 am to 9 pm daily. The last patient registration at 8:00 PM.
With a continued focus on its tradition of respecting the dignity of each person, St.
Joseph's Hospital continues to evolve and grow in its mission of compassionate caring for
the community it serves.
