Grand
Manan Hospital
The Grand Manan Hospital was established in 1940 to provide
facilities for the care and treatment of the residents of Grand Manan. The present
building was completed in 1971, and can accommodate fourteen patients. Inpatient,
outpatient and diagnostic services are provided as well as Extra-Mural services, which are
located within the facility. A $1 Million renovation was completed in May
2000
that includes a sprinkler system, new Emergency Entrance, internal reorganization and
general upgrading.
Admitting
Patients are admitted on the direction of their physicians. Patient information
is obtained in the patient's room by a member of the nursing staff. If the patient is
under 16 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign any forms of preadmission for
treatment.
ID bracelet
The identification bracelet which you receive on admission to the hospital is to be worn
at all times during your hospital stay.
Discharge
Discharge time is 11:00 a.m. whenever possible. You will be advised about your discharge
date in time to make advance arrangements to be accompanied home by someone who can pick
you up following discharge.
Follow-up care and Appointments
Before you leave the hospital, you will be able to consult with your nurse or other health
care professional about your treatments, medications or future appointments. Remember to
take all personal possessions with you, as well as any remaining medications you brought
to the hospital.
Parking
Parking is available at either end or at the rear of the hospital. Parking is not
permitted at the front of the building.
Your Room
Fire Safety Fire drills are held on a regular basis. Patients are notified prior to these
drills. Do not be upset if the fire alarm sounds during your stay. In the event of an
alarm, remain calm, stay in your room, and follow the instructions of hospital staff.
Meals
Meals are served at 7:30 a.m., noon, and 5:00 p.m.
Telephones, TVs and Radios
Telephones are available to patients on a first come, first served basis. Bills are
charged by Aliant Telecom to your home phone number. Please advise Aliant Telecom when you are discharged to
avoid further charges.
Domestic televisions and VCRs are not permitted. To arrange installation of a television,
please speak to a member of our staff and they will make arrangements. Payment is due at
the time of TV installation.
Cellular phones interfere with hospital equipment and are strictly prohibited.
Visiting Hours
Visiting hours are from 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Open visiting hours
are allowed in the children's ward, at the discretion of nursing staff.
Education
Information is made available to patients as required, or requested.
Lost and Found
If you have lost or found anything in the hospital, please inform nursing staff.
Laundry
Our laundry staff will launder your personal clothing during your stay at your request.
Mail
Your personal mail will be delivered to your room on a daily basis. Mail that arrives
after your discharge will be forwarded to your home.
Pastoral Care
Pastoral care is available to all patients who wish it. Each patient will be contacted by
a staff member from the Business Office, and a pastor of choice will be notified. During
the weekend, requests for pastoral care can be made to a nurse.
