Charlotte County Hospital

The Charlotte County Hospital was built in 1953. The hospital is a 44-bed acute care facility with a comprehensive range of emergency, inpatient, ambulatory services, and an Oncology Outreach program. An Oncology Outreach program enables patients to receive chemotherapy treatments in their own community. A recent expansion project has provided new space to enhance emergency and ambulatory services, while improving the hospital's overall service delivery. A new emergency room, concentrated care unit, nursing stations and a new ambulance garage were constructed. Renovations to the laboratory, chapel, gift shop and cafeteria were also completed.

Admitting
Patients are asked to report to the Admitting Department, located just inside the main entrance, between noon and 1:00 p.m., or as otherwise instructed. If the patient to be admitted is under 16 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign any forms of pre-admission for treatment.

ID bracelet
The identification bracelet, which you receive on admission to the hospital, is to be worn at all times during your hospital stay.

Discharge from hospital
Each patient is discharged after approval from the attending physician. You are encouraged to leave the hospital by noon. Please check with the Business Office before leaving. The Discharge Planner will assist with discharge arrangements to ensure a smooth transition from hospital to your home or other health care facility.

Follow-up care and Appointments
Before you leave the hospital, you will be able to consult with your nurse or other health care professional about your treatments, medications or future appointments. Remember to take all personal possessions with you, as well as any remaining medications you brought to the hospital.

Parking
Free parking is available at the hospital.

Your Room
Fire Safety Fire drills are held periodically in the hospital for patient safety and to acquaint staff with emergency procedures. Do not be upset if the fire alarm sounds during your stay. In the event of an alarm, remain calm, stay in your room, and follow the instructions of hospital staff.

Meals
Meals are served at 8:00 a.m., noon, and 5:00 p.m.

Telephones, TVs and Radios
A pay telephone is located in the Patient Lounge on each floor. These telephones may only be used to make outgoing calls so that other patients will not be disturbed. All patient rooms are equipped with a telephone that can be rented from Aliant Telecom. Details of this service are available at Admitting and at each nursing station. Remember to notify Aliant Telecom when you are discharged in order to avoid further charges. Televisions are provided on each floor in the Patient Lounge.

For your safety, and that of other patients and hospital staff, all electrical equipment brought into the hospital must be inspected by the Bio-Medical Engineering Department. Please inform your nurse of any equipment (electric razor, hair dryer, fans, etc.) and this inspection will be arranged for you.
Cellular phones interfere with hospital electronics and are strictly prohibited.

Visiting Hours
Visitors are permitted from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Only two visitors per patient are permitted at one time. If you do not wish to have visitors, advise the nursing staff. For the comfort of other patients, please ensure that your visitors are aware of this policy.

Cafeteria
The cafeteria is located in the basement and is available to all visitors between 9:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., Monday to Friday. Vending machines are located in the cafeteria.
