Code Black all clear

As of 7:45 this evening the Saint John Regional Hospital has been given the all clear after completing a search of the building.

“A Code Black was called on the overhead paging system after a call came in to the hospital’s switchboard at 3:57 this afternoon,” said Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation’s President and CEO Dora Nicinski. As part of AHSC’s Code Black protocol the Saint John police were contacted and arrived on-site and a complete search of the building was made. ”It was an enormous undertaking,” said Nicinski. “I learned today there are almost one million square feet of space in this hospital.”

Nicinski thanked staff, patients, visitors and the community at large. “This was a difficult situation,” she said. “I extend my apologies to anyone who experienced fear or concern because of this incident today. Our first concern was for the safety of patients and the security of this building.”

Nicinski ended by saying that AHSC would schedule a debriefing in the coming days. “It’s important for us to discuss lessons learned and how we can improve our emergency planning,” she explained.

Hospital visiting hours are now resumed.
