April 05, 2007 Nursing Unit at Saint John Regional Hospital closed to visitors The nursing unit known as 3C South at the Saint John Regional Hospital is closed to visitors. There are 5 individuals exhibiting Norwalk-like flu symptoms. We will continue to monitor these patients. As all patients must be symptom free for 48 hours before we would consider lifting the visiting restrictions, we expect this nursing unit to remain closed over the Easter weekend. This unit is closed to visitors. This is a precautionary infection control measure that will remain in effect until risk to patients and staff is low. Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen remains closed to visitors. We remind visitors to the Saint John Regional Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Centracare, Charlotte County Hospital, Sussex Health Centre and Grand Manan Hospital that you should not visit if you are exhibiting symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea. You should be free of all symptoms for 48 hours before you visit. The best preventive measure to stop the spread of this virus is to use good hygiene, particularly proper hand washing. The public is invited to go to the following website for a demonstration on hand washing http://www.ahsc.health.nb.ca/cleanhandsahsc/cleanhandsworkingahsc.html
