April 05, 2007 Charlotte County Hospital now closed to all visitors Charlotte County Hospital is now closed to visitors. There are 17 patients and 6 staff members with Norwalk like symptoms. One case has been confirmed as Norwalk virus. We are monitoring the situation and will advise when the hospital is reopened to visitors. As patients must be symptom free for 48 hours, it is expected that the hospital will remain closed to visitors throughout the Easter weekend. Family members who require patient information should contact the nursing manager. This is a precautionary infection control measure that will remain in effect until risk to patients and staff is low. There are currently no new cases in other hospitals in Health Region 2; however we do remind visitors to the Saint John Regional Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Centracare, Sussex Health Centre and Grand Manan Hospital that you should not visit if you are exhibiting symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea. You should be free of all symptoms for 48 hours before you visit. The best preventive measure to stop the spread of this virus is to use good hygiene, particularly proper hand washing. The public is invited to go to the following website for a demonstration on hand washing http://www.ahsc.health.nb.ca/cleanhandsahsc/cleanhandsworkingahsc.html
