Accreditation survey complete

Dora Nicinski, President and CEO of Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation was pleased following a debriefing session by surveyors from the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation. “The preliminary report is a positive sign that we have had a successful survey,” she said.

AHSC physicians and staff were invited to the debriefing at noon today. Six surveyors discussed their on-site visits, focus groups and meetings with teams of staff and physicians representing clinical and support areas. In all, 20 teams worked together to present surveyors with a clear picture of the programs and services provided by Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation.  The survey team began its work on May 29.

Survey team leader, Ray Scott, CEO of Fraser Health Region in British Columbia, noted that he had learned some new things on his visit. “I  will be taking some new ideas back to my place of employment,” he said. “I’ve learned about some innovative processes here.” He also told the audience about  comments from the focus group with clients where particpants expressed their feelings that Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation provides “great services overall.”

The Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA) is the major national accrediting body for health services organizations across Canada. Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation voluntarily participates in the survey process every three years. “We find the accreditation process to be a valuable learning and improvement cycle,” said Nicinski. “The rigorous review of services that it involved is a very effective way for us to see ways to improve the care we provide to the residents of Health Region 2.”

Nicinski acknowledged staff and physicians and their commitment to patient care. “It is through your dedication that we are able to be measured against national standards of excellence,” she said. “I am proud to work alongside such talented individuals.”

The final report of the CCHSA survey is expected later this summer.
