Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation (AHSC) based Saint John, New Brunswick invites applications for Emergency Medicine physicians for full-time and locum opportunities for the Saint John Regional Hospital Emergency Department and the St. Joseph’s Urgent Care Centre. The AHSC Emergency Medicine Program spans five hospital facilities located in Saint John, Sussex, Charlotte County, and Grand Manan and collectively they serve approximately 150,000 patient visits per year. The Saint John Emergency Department, which is a tertiary site and provincial referral centre for cardiac and neurosurgery services, is about to begin a sizeable renovation and modernization due to be completed in 2010. The Department of Emergency Medicine offers flexible scheduling and equitable shift distribution. AHSC is a designated Saint John campus of the Dalhousie University Post Graduate Medical Education Program and is affiliated with Memorial University of Newfoundland. The Department of Emergency Medicine shares academic responsibilities for both CCFP (EM) and RCP (EM) residency programs with regular teaching, rounds and journal clubs. Remuneration (sessional or salaried) is dependent on the physician’s qualifications. AHSC is the largest multi-facility regional health authority in New Brunswick and serves a population of 176,000 in the southwestern part of the Province. The Saint John Regional Hospital, has 23 areas of specialty medicine and surgery, and is supported by a vast array of research, education, health promotion activities and community partnerships. In the near future, the Dalhousie New Brunswick Medical Education Program will be based on the adjacent property to the Saint John Regional Hospital at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John campus. Saint John is situated in the picturesque Bay of Fundy and is located on one of the finest inland waterways in North America. Saint John offers numerous social and cultural facilities as well as recreational opportunities including hiking, kayaking, windsurfing, boating, yachting, winter sports, golf and fishing. Being the only bilingual Province, there is access to both English and French school systems. The Saint John campus of the University of New Brunswick is adjacent to the Saint John Regional Hospital and offers a wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the Province of New Brunswick. Emergency Medicine positions require FRCP (EM), CCFP (EM) or ABEM. Successful candidates may be eligible for an academic appointment. Bilingual applicants (French) are preferred.
