The friendly and picturesque community of St. Stephen is seeking to replace a retiring General Surgeon. We invite you to join a dedicated team of health professionals providing care to a service population of 15,000. St. Stephen is located on the beautiful St. Croix River bordering Maine, USA, and is just 20 minutes from one of Canada’s most famous resort areas, St. Andrews-by-the-Sea. Within minutes, there is access to canoeing, kayaking, hiking, birdwatching, whalewatching, fishing, cross-country skiing, and many other recreational activities. Schools provide a full range of academic and recreational activities including the option of Early French Immersion. St. Stephen is the home of the world-renowned Ganong’s Chocolate Plant. Close to other major centres, St. Stephen is just 7 hours by car from Boston, 6 hours to Halifax, 9 hours to Montreal. The Charlotte County Hospital is a 59-bed community hospital providing service in Emergency, Concentrated Care (combined ICU-CCU), Family Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Palliative Care, and Extended Care. Diagnostic Services include onsite Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory services. There is a team of 10 family practice physicians, 1 surgeon, 2 GP anaesthetists, l internist and l radiologist. There are regularly scheduled specialty clinics held by consultants from Saint John. We offer diabetic education, a breast screening program, and an oncology outreach program. In addition, we work in close collaboration with other community agencies to deliver care across the continuum. The Charlotte County Hospital is part of a highly integrated 13 facility health region, which operates on a program management model. Facilities and programs share in expertise across all specialties with rapid access to all tertiary services. Exciting new telehealth initiatives using some of the most advanced fiberoptic and digital imaging technology in the world have been implemented with new applications being developed. The Saint John Regional Hospital, a regional and provincial tertiary teaching hospital affiliated with Dalhousie University is only one hour away by road. Numerous educational opportunities are available through video conferencing or travel to Saint John. Incentives The successful applicant will be offered rent-free office space for a negotiable term. Assistance will be provided to spouse seeking employment. Information regarding the real estate market, schools, and services will be supplied upon request. Remuneration is on a fee-for-service basis with a sessional fee for on-call. Candidates may qualify for the new $40,000.00 relocation grant program.
