Family Practice Physicians
Eastern Charlotte County, New Brunswick

The friendly and picturesque communities of St.George, Blacks Harbour and Pennfield are seeking two Family Practice Physicians to join a dedicated team of health professionals in providing primary care to a service population of approximately 8,000 people. Eastern Charlotte County is located in south-western New Brunswick along the beautiful Bay of Fundy coast. This is a popular tourist destination for visitors from Canada, the U.S., and Europe. Within minutes, there is access to canoeing, kayaking, hiking, whale watching, fishing, cross-country skiing, and many other recreational activities. Schools provide a full range of academic and recreational activities. Close to other major centres, Eastern Charlotte County is just 8 hours from Boston, 5 hours to Halifax and 10 hours to Montreal - all by car.

The Fundy Health Centre is located in Blacks Harbour, providing primary care and emergency services, with access to some diagnostic and rehabilitation services on site. A rotating call schedule to cover the health center's outpatient and emergency programs will be shared by all physicians until 8:00 PM nightly. There is a move toward a clinic model setting with four physicians, including the implementation of a collaborative practice model with advanced competencies in nursing that fosters a team approach to health care delivery. The successful Physicians will become members of this team. There is also a well-developed home care program (Extra-Mural Program) that works closely with all disciplines to ensure a more seamless continuum of care.

There are exciting new Telehealth applications with digital imaging and televideo capabilities that support access to speciality services in the province’s largest tertiary care teaching hospital located 45 minutes away in Saint John. The Saint John Regional Hospital is a 650-bed tertiary care teaching center, accredited trauma center and a major affiliate of Dalhousie University. There are 20 clinical speciality programs including provincial tertiary services in Oncology, Cardiac Care, Dialysis and Neuroscience. There are developing opportunities to be actively involved in the Dalhousie University and Memorial University family medicine teaching program.

Incentives

The successful applicant will have the choice of being compensated on a fee-for service basis or a salaried position with benefits. The Physician will also qualify for relocation expenses and the provincial location grant. The municipalities will provide financial incentives and overhead for a private, fully equipped office (one in Blacks Harbour and the other in St. George), for a one-year term per successful applicant. Every effort would be made to assist a spouse seeking employment. Information regarding the real estate market, schools, and other community services will be supplied upon request.
