Margaret Melanson
Executive Director Saint John Regional Hospital, Charlotte County Hospital, Grand Manan Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Sussex Health Centre
Margaret Melanson is the Executive Director for Saint John Regional Hospital as well as Charlotte County Hospital, Grand Manan Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital and Sussex Health Centre. Margaret has extensive clinical and administrative experience in the health care sector. She is currently the Vice President of Clinical and Facility Support Services for the Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation and has held the management portfolios of Administrative Director of Therapeutic Services and Administrative Director of Rehabilitation for the Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation. She began her career as a Speech Language Pathologist at the Sussex Health Centre. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from Dalhousie University in Halifax and an Executive Master of Business Administration. |

Lorraine Brown, BN, MSA, CHRP
Director, Human Resources
Ms. Brown, born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, obtained her
Bachelor of Nursing from Memorial University and began her extensive
nursing career in Labrador City in positions as staff nurse,
supervisor, infection control coordinator and Director of Mental
Health. Since relocating her home to New Brunswick, Ms. Brown has
worked in a variety of health care facilities and specialties in the
greater Saint John area including Labour and Delivery; Geriatrics,
and Mental Health as staffing coordinator, nurse manager, and acting
Director of Nursing/CEO of Centracare. In 1995, Ms. Brown completed
the Masters of Science in Administration program from Central
Michigan University. With the introduction of the Program Management
structure in 1996, she accepted the position of Administrative
Director for Family and Internal Medicine Programs. Subsequent areas
of responsibility included Oncology, Mental Health and the Health
and Aging Programs. In 2001, Ms. Brown accepted her current position
in Human Resources. |

James O’Brien, MD,
FRCSC
Medical Director RHA B, Zone 2
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Dr. O’Brien is a graduate of
Memorial University of Newfoundland, in St. John’s, and received his
Fellowship in Plastic Surgery, from the Royal College of Physicians and
Surgeons of Canada in 1985. He completed his residency in Plastic Surgery
at the University of Toronto and a peripheral nerve fellowship with
Doctors Susan MacKinnon and Alan Hudson. He joined the Associate Staff,
Department of Plastic Surgery, at Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation in
1986 and moved to the Active Staff in 1987. In 1995, Dr. O’Brien was
appointed Clinical Department Head, Department of Plastic Surgery. and in
1997 became chair/director of Surgical Services for AHSC. Dr. O’Brien
was appointed Chief of Staff in January, 2001, and continues to follow the
Corporation’s vision towards enabling physicians to be active partners
in the evolution of service delivery. Dr. O’Brien is an Associate
Professor of Surgery at Dalhousie University and, as such, is keenly
interested in the training of the next generation of physicians. |

Brian Wheelock,
MD, FRCSC
Chief of Staff, RHA B, Zone 2
Dr. Wheelock is a graduate of Dalhousie University School of Medicine and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He completed his Neurosurgery Residency in 1983. He joined the Neurosurgery Program of Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation in 1984 and was appointed Clinical Department Head in 1991. He currently serves as Past President of both the Canadian Neurosurgical Society and the Canadian Congress of Neurological Sciences. Dr. Wheelock is a
past member of the Board of Directors for the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation. He is committed to bringing ideas and concerns of physicians to Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation Senior Executive as well as the AHSC Board of Directors. Dr. Wheelock is an Assistant Professor of Dalhousie University School of Medicine and enjoys teaching and mentoring Neurosurgery residents. |
